Cancellation and Refunds

The short version

Cancel any time, in the store you bought it from, and you are not charged again. The messages keep coming until the end of the 4 weeks you have already paid for, and then they stop. Cancelling does not delete anything: your recordings and your family’s messages stay until you erase them yourself, which is a separate choice and always available.

How to cancel

On an iPhone: open Settings, tap your name, tap Subscriptions, choose Smriti, and cancel. You can also do it from the App Store.

On an Android phone: open the Play Store, tap your profile picture, tap Payments and subscriptions, then Subscriptions, choose Smriti, and cancel.

Cancel at least 24 hours before the cycle ends, because a renewal already in progress cannot be stopped. If you are in the free trial, the same 24 hours applies: cancel inside it and you are never charged at all.

If you cannot reach the store for any reason, write to us and we will walk you through it. We cannot cancel it for you, because the subscription is held in your store account and not in ours.

What you get back

A cycle that has started is not refunded pro rata, in the ordinary case. You have paid for 4 weeks and you keep all 4, whether you use them or not.

There are three exceptions, and we mean them. If Smriti was broken for a meaningful part of your cycle and we could not put it right, we will put the lost days back on your cycle or support a refund for them. If you were charged after cancelling, that is our mistake or the store’s, and it goes back in full. If you are a consumer in the European Union or the United Kingdom and you withdraw inside 14 days of subscribing, you get back the part of the cycle we have not yet run.

We will also support a request we think is fair even when no rule forces it. Somebody who subscribed the week their parent went into hospital should not have to argue with us about it.

Who actually returns the money

Apple and Google are the seller. They take the payment, they hold the card, and they are the only ones who can return it. We never see your card number and we have no button that moves money back to you, so a refund is asked of them and granted by them.

On an iPhone, ask at reportaproblem.apple.com. On an Android phone, ask through the Play Store order history, or through Google Play support.

Tell us at the same time. We will write to the store in support of your request, with the dates and what happened, and we will stop the next charge on our side immediately. A request we have backed is a request that usually succeeds.

Discounts and offers

A discount code is redeemed in the store, on the subscription itself. A code applied late does not reach a payment already taken; it comes off the next cycle instead, which means an offer is deferred rather than lost.

The free trial is a store offer too. One per person, and it does not combine with another introductory offer on the same subscription.

If you want to stop for a while instead

Cancelling is not the only way to make the messages stop. Sign in, open Settings, and choose to pause. Nothing is sent, nothing is deleted, and one tap starts it again on the day you are ready. A pause does not stop the subscription renewing, so if you want the charges to stop as well, cancel in the store too.
